It doesn’t matter how high you build your nest these days – Conservative Leader D.C. and his comic party will find a way to spoil your Eyrie. It seems that everything that has been successful and proven to work has been decimated by many Conservatives who think they know all and who in actual fact know nothing. I suppose ignorance is bliss and less money!
Apparently a Grayling (Thymallus) a species of freshwater fish in the salmon family, who is a Conservative has decreed that the Criminal, Family and Civil Justice Systems be changed (all in the cause of economy), to quote a line in a song from “Half A Sixpence.”
Having studied the CV and Policies of this floundering fish, he sounds like Superman minus the ability to fly, but is capable of swimming up stream. He has been in charge of the following ministeries – Education, Pensions, UK Economy and now the legal fraternity. I am all in favour of people making a name for themselves in the Government, but I do draw the line if it is at the expense of someone losing their job. I always thought that D.C. and his Comic Party were supposed to encourage the public to work but obviously they are systematically ruining other people’s livelihood by changing long trusted systems – why knock it if it works and why does D.C. place Ministers in charge of departments that they know sod all about? Of course it all comes down to money again.
Bring back Jim Hacker M.P. and Sir Humphrey Appleby – at least you could laugh until the tears rolled down your cheeks – now with this Government you only get the HARDSHIPS and TEARS.
A statement by Julian Dale Barrister at Law L.LB. (Hons) Head of Sussex Chambers:-
In December 1992 I joined Sussex Chambers as a newly qualified barrister. For the last nine years I’ve had the honour of being Head of Chambers. Today is my last day there and later this month Chambers will shut its doors forever. During these 22 years we’ve trained up many fine barristers and for the last nine years we’ve been listed as a “Leading Set” in the Legal 500. We’ve fought many important battles for our clients, most of whom are vulnerable or disadvantaged, many of whom have been penniless, some of whom have had serious Mental Health problems.
We’ve never turned away anyone on the basis that they had insufficient funds or that their their case appeared too hopeless or that their alleged crimes appeared too despicable. I’m deeply proud of all Sussex Chambers has achieved and stood for. Sadly, the Criminal, Family and Civil Justice Systems are being rapidly destroyed by an unqualified & inexperienced Minister of Justice who has scarce idea of the value of what he is decimating. Access to justice SHOULD NEVER be based on ability to pay.
Many good people have left the Bar in the last three years and I fear many more will be doing so in the next couple of years. Their expertise, experience and excellence will be lost to the Justice system forever. Whilst all of my Sussex Chambers colleagues are moving to other jobs or other Sets, there is an undeniable air of depression in Robing rooms across the country: a sad acceptance that our once great Justice system will soon be a shadow of its former self. The closing of a good local set like Sussex Chambers is just another small step on that journey. Thank you to all our solicitor friends across the county who have supported us across the last two decades, we’ve relished helping you fight your clients’ battles. New horizons beckon…….
