The Mayor of Newhaven, Councillor Steve Saunders is cycling from London to Paris via the Newhaven-Dieppe ferry to raise funds for charity and to promote the ferry crossing.
He set out from London today, Wednesday 11th May and crosses the Channel tomorrow, Thursday 12th May to Dieppe, where he and his fellow cyclists will be welcomed by the Mayor of Dieppe and local cycling groups. The remainder of the route to Paris will be completed over three days with the group expected to arrive at the Eiffel Tower in Paris at around midday on Sunday 15th May.
The Mayor is accompanied by some of his friends and by a group of cyclists from Blind Veterans UK, which will include 3 blind veterans riding on tandems with sighted riders. The cyclists will be raising funds for Blind Veterans UK and for the Mayors charities which are the RNLI and Seahaven Responders.
Councillor Saunders said “I am looking forward to this challenging ride which will raise money for my charities and for Blind Veterans UK and will promote the historic links between Newhaven and Dieppe, especially the ferry service which is so important to both towns.”
