Meet our new columnist, Lynsey Sculpt

Lynsey is an experienced Personal Trainer, Biomechanics Coach, Callanetics Teacher, fitness writer and creator of her own unique exercise concept. She is 43, has three children and lives in the beautiful Cotswolds with her partner Grant.

She works predominantly with women to to help them to enjoy movement, lose weight, gain strength, foster a positive mindset around exercise and become more confident and content in their own skin.

Lynsey has a particular interest menopause and in helping women understand how diet and exercise can make the transition into the ‘third age’ a much more positive experience. She believes that changes to lifestyle, coupled with balanced and informed education around HRT and what is actually happening to our bodies as we age, gives women the empowerment needed to thrive during menopause.

Lynsey is also no stranger to injuries and conditions that affect the ability to exercise and move well. She suffers from a EhlersDanlos Syndrome – hypermobility (EDS) which means she has faulty connective tissue and as a result her joints, ligaments and muscles move past their normal range of movement. This causes pain, risk of injury and fatigue as the muscles have to work extra hard to stabilise the joints. Thus, she has a real interest in working with people who also suffer from EDS to help them build the strength needed to avoid injury and reduce pain.

In 2019 Lynsey feared her time as an exercise professional was over, after she suffered a severe spinal cord injury which left her with a debilitating and degenerative condition called Adhesive Arachnoditis. It causes severe pain and weakness in her back and legs and she was unable to walk unaided, couldn’t teach and feared for her future.

Determined not to be defeated, she gritted her teeth, dug deeper than she thought possible and used all her personal and professional experience to develop exercises to help her condition. The exercises use a series of precise pulsing movements and stretches to build muscles around the joints. They strengthen, mobilise, tighten and lengthen the body in a completely safe, non impact way. They also do it very quickly!

The results have been pretty amazing. She completely have her life back and can exercise as much as she want. Best of all she is practically pain free.

Her passion is now to help others who suffer from a range of back and joints problems rehab themselves through exercise and she works with a number of physiotherapists, chiropractors and osteopaths to help people reduce their pain levels, move better and improve their quality of life.

On becoming a health and fitness Contributing Editor for The Sussex Newspaper, Lynsey said:

“I’m thrilled to be able to bring you my very real, relatable and no nonsense take on the world of health and fitness and look forward to sharing articles on menopause and joint pain, hormones and exercise, posture and balance and how to improve it as we age, and why stomach crunches will never give you a flat tummy.”
