Mel’s Milers Jogging Club will run their 13th annual 10k race, and this year the money raised will be donated to Alzheimer’s Society.
The race on Sunday 29th March will start from their Bluecoat Sports Centre base at Christ’s Hospital near Horsham in West Sussex. Each year a donation is made to a charity from the proceeds of the race and other fundraising activities.
The club have already raised £400 following a cake and book sale last November. In total the club hopes to raise more than £1,500 for the charity.
Niki Woolven, charity co-ordinator for the running club, said:
‘This year’s charity, Alzheimer’s Society, was unanimously chosen by club members. Several members have personal experience of loved ones living with the condition.
‘Through my own experience, I am aware of the challenges and heartbreak endured not only by those living with dementia but also by their families and friends. With increasing numbers of people developing dementia, it is so important that we support this worthwhile cause.
‘It’s great to think that we will be raising funds to help support people to live well with dementia and to fund research to one day find a cure for dementia.’
Hannah Miller, Alzheimer’s Society community fundraiser for West Sussex and Surrey, welcomed the support from Mel’s Milers. She said:
‘It’s great that Mel’s Milers are supporting Alzheimer’s Society through their fundraising and the 10k race in March.
‘As a charity, we rely on donations to help us continue our vital work so that Alzheimer’s Society can continue leading the fight against dementia.’
The mixed terrain run is mostly off-road and takes in a lap of the famous Christ’s Hospital School grounds before heading off to Southwater along the Downs Link, through the Country Park, and back along the Downs Link.
