Open early until late and on every day of the week are the buzz words for Midhurst’s brand new library.
The library will open its doors for the first time on Monday 31 March at 9am.
This West Sussex County Council library, which took five years to plan, is housed in Midhurst’s new Grange Community and Leisure Centre. Its state-of-the-art self-service book borrowing machines will be available during the centre opening hours which on weekdays are from 7.00am until 11.00pm, plus Saturday 7.30am until 7.30pm and Sunday from 9.00am until 7.30pm.
The library will be supported by Community Centre staff when librarians are not on duty.
A wide range of books will be available along with CD audiobooks, DVDs and free WiFi throughout the building.
Children will love their own space with a great range of books for all ages. For the very young there is a free weekly toddler time with shared songs and rhymes each Monday at 2.15pm.
Library users can make full use of the centre’s other facilities. For the first time in West Sussex it is now easy to enter one door and select a book and DVD, followed by a game of badminton or squash, lunch in the café bar followed by a dance or fitness session.
Lionel Barnard, Cabinet Member for resident’s services with responsibility for libraries, said: “This is really good news for Midhurst and our library will be a great addition to what is a super community facility.
“The opening hours of the library mean that our service is accessible to far more people at times that may better suit them which is a good thing. I hope lots of people enjoy using it.”
