I can understand the people living in Willingdon Village being somewhat upset because Wealden District Council are considering ruining what little remaining green countryside they have in that area by building at first suggested 1,100 dwellings on the site of Mornings Mill Arable Farm Land, but now reduced to 700. I suggest that the people of Willingdon monitor the building should this proposal go through because the new Kings Drive estate that happened a couple of years ago. It was alleged that the builder with the full permission of the local Planning Council allowed him to sneak in a few more houses than the proposal that had been agreed upon as I was allegedly led to believe.
The Mornings Mill Farm site encroaches on three sides such as:-
(1) WINDMILL ROAD and BRIGHTLING ROAD.
(2) BROAD ROAD and CLEMENT LANE.
(3) HAZELWOOD AVENUE and SEVEN SISTERS ROAD.
Just to name a few roads in those areas that will be affected.
The Kings Drive New Estate recently built which is on the A2270 – the flow of traffic has been very slow since and this road will connect with the A2021 where all these houses are to be built, squashing Eastbourne District General Hospital in the middle.
Have the planners ever thought of the turmoil on the roads leading to and from the hospital in both directions? It is bad enough now, especially when most families have more than one car. The flow of traffic is somewhat stymied especially around Eastbourne District General Hospital roundabout. There are queues of traffic from all approaches to that roundabout and 700 or 1,100 new dwellings are not going to make it easier and more importantly someone’s life might be the forfeit of someone’s woolly brain to do this.
To add to this problem of traffic flow – it was alleged sometime ago that a committee was formed to discuss whether to make Eastbourne a slow or quick to travel through. Apparently they chose the first option and it is clearly apparent that it is indeed very slow.
The area of housing will connect with Eastbourne with no green fields between the three areas and will be considered to become a City, just like Brighton – but do we really want it?
The new estate boasts of more shops, schools and other amenities where just across the road where the building of houses touch the existing houses along those routes mentioned have already got these amenities – it doesn’t make much sense!
Here in the South of England our Green and pleasant land is slowly becoming a Concrete Jungle. When will it all stop?
