Music everywhere with Music Month

The second ever Music Month continues across Hastings and Rother up until the Halloween celebrations of 31st October, and the great musical events just keep on coming right across the region.

The 46th Rye Arts Festival started on 16th September and continues until 1st October, concentrating on the Classical end of the musical spectrum, but with much more besides.

In Battle the very well respected Battle Festival takes place throughout October, ending on the 31st, the highlight of which is probably the recently announced gig by Mt Desolation, featuring Tim Rice-Oxley and Jesse Quin of Keane, on 21st October at St Mary’s Church in the town. Tickets are expected to sell very quickly for this exclusive gig.

Not to be outdone the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill has a great selection of gigs during Music Month, including Dweezil Zappa, Grizzly Bear, Public Service Broadcasting and Nick Mulvey.

In Hastings venues across the town are getting into the Music Month spirit.
The White Rock Theatre plays host to Lulu on 10th October, and American rockers WASP on the 12th.
St Mary In The Castle features a rare UK gig by Malian guitarist Habib Koite on 22nd October.
Hastings band Kid Kapichi launch their much anticipated EP at The Carlisle, ably supported by Nova Twins, on Saturday, 30th September.
The recently relaunched Black Market VIP venue in George St, carries on with its series of big name gigs with Andy Bennet of Ocean Colour Scene on 14th October, John Power of Cast on the 15th, and Dodgy (unplugged) on the 27th.
For the younger audience members, the Brass Monkey, in Havelock Road, continue their Hastings Live 14+ gigs on Thursday evening throughout the October.
And let’s not forget Voodoo Fest at The Palace, including the now infamous procession through Hastings town centre on Halloween itself.
The perfect ending to an action packed month, and a bit of wonderful local music.

One of the people behind Music Month, Andy Gunton, said “Just because the summer season has ended doesn’t mean that Hastings and Rother isn’t still open for business, especially where musical entertainment is concerned. The music scene in the area is a year round attraction, as any local will tell you, and the events during Music Month go a long way in proving that.”

Cllr Kim Forward, deputy leader of Hastings Borough Council commented, “We are delighted to support Music Month. It is exciting to see the wealth of talent in the town, and heartening to see so many local volunteers coordinating the events. Hastings and 1066 Country rightly has a great reputation for things to do, and these out of season events are great for local residents , visitors, and the local economy.”

Plans are already being made for Music Month 3 in early 2018.
