Brighton-based Production Company, Talking Scarlet, returns to Worthing’s Connaught Theatre on May 9th and 10th with its latest spine-chiller, The Devil at Midnight, starring TV’s Corrinne Wickes and Andrew Paul.
Corrinne and Andrew play husband and wife Liz and Jack Burns in the Brian Clemens play, directed by Patric Kearns and designed by Geoff Gilder. The psychological, morally searching, topical thriller sees psychoanalyst Liz Burns receive an unexpected visit from Nicki, played by Charlotte Chinn, who is troubled by dreams in which she is visited by a bearded devil who carries her away to a lonely, terrifying old house. Liz concludes her visitor is a victim of abuse but as the details of Nicki’s past life emerge, clues suggest Liz’s husband Jack may be involved and that Nicki is seeking revenge. As Nicki and her brother Billy, played by Chris Sheridan, eventually convince Liz of her husband’s guilt, she turns on him too and the truth can finally be revealed.
Double Royal Television Society Award nominee Corrinne’s previous work includes joining the original cast of BBC drama Doctors in 2000 on which she played series regular Dr Helen Thompson for six years. She is also known for her regular role on Emmerdale playing Ella Hart and for other screen roles in Toast for Ruby Films, ITV’s Doc Martin and Life on Mars, plus stage performances in Our Town and Betrayal for the National Theatre as well as national tours of The Holly and the Ivy and The Importance of Being Earnest for Middleground Theatre Company.
Andrew is best known for his television work for ITV as PC Dave Quinnan in The Bill, Billy Boothe in Where the Heart Is and as Inspector Salinger in last year’s Dracula for NBC/Sky. His recent theatre work includes the national tours of The Things We Do for Love in 2004 and The Maintenance Man in 2006 as well as Dry Rot in 2012.
