Nostalgia

Why do things have to change?

Remember when you were younger? When your parents used to say  “things were better in my day”? Remember how you used to think they were crazy, they didn’t know what they were talking about, how you knew you had it better? Well, I have now reached that magical age where I now know I was wrong. My head is full of thoughts of those wonderful days, and all this is due to a packet of multipack crisps.

The packet I purchased weren’t my usual (endorsed by an ex-footballer) brand. This brand was a brand from the past. On opening the packet  I was so excited to find that the salt and vinegar crisps were in blue packets, and the cheese and onion in a green packets, (this satisfied me way more than it should). It just how things should be.

This nostalgia continued when I discussed this concept with my husband, it escalated to how we preferred Marathon to Snickers, how a finger of fudge used to be bigger (although we aren’t sure whether we were just smaller). Funny feet ice cream, 99 with a flake, Texan bars, Pacers, half penny sweets, Spangles. The list could go on. What do our kids have now? I’ll tell you, mega sour sweets that take off a layer of skin from your tongue when you suck them, chocolate bars half the size and ten times the price, and last but not least, cheese and onion crisps in a BLUE bag.

The discussion continued into 80’s music, cars, records (which are now making a comeback) and other trends we missed from our childhoods.  However, thanks to the recent trend in everything “vintage”all is not lost, there is a  good chance all these fantastic items may become en vogue once more.

This is fantastic news, just as long as ra-ra skirts and neon leg warmers don’t come with it!  I was after all, always told to be careful what you wish for.
