Nyetimber Stores purchased by first-time buyer through Christie & Co

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, is pleased to announce the sale of Nyetimber Stores and Post Office in Bognor Regis, West Sussex.

Nyetimber Stores is located on Pagham Road in the village of Pagham, approximately six miles south of Chichester and 72 miles south west of London. It sits in a two-storey brick-built building and comprises a convenience store and Post Office, supplying essential services to the local community, such as convenience and household goods, chilled and frozen foods, newspapers and magazines, cigarettes, off-licence services and National Lottery.

This site also comes with owners’ three-bedroom split-level accommodation. Originally two properties, there is potential to split the accommodation into two separate flats, providing the opportunity for an additional income stream.

The business has been operated by previous owners Mr and Mrs Thevarajah for 19 years, during which time it had developed a large loyal customer base and proved a successful venture. Their son Than Thevarajah who had overseen the business in recent years, took the decision to sell the store to enable his parents to retire.

Nyetimber Stores was recently purchased by first-time buyer Alan Glasson who, after working for many years managing convenience stores, decided to take the plunge and purchase one for himself.

Mr Glasson comments, “I have been hunting for a suitable business for some time. I saw Nyetimber Stores and liked the business, accommodation and the location near the sea. Christie & Co were extremely proactive and helped me through the process and I am delighted to be in and trading. We will focus on providing an excellent range of fresh and chilled foods and look forward to getting to know the local community.”

Tom Glanvill, Associate Director at Christie & Co, comments. “We are delighted to have concluded this sale which exchanged and completed during the lockdown period. The convenience food sector is adapting fast to the challenging trading conditions, with a wide range of customer and community focused adaptations, such as home deliveries being introduced to help local customers affected by the lockdown. Generally, agency activity in the sector has remained high and in April alone I have overseen the completion of two Post Offices, a village store and a petrol forecourt as well as receiving a wide range of offers on other retail businesses that are currently listed with Christie & Co.”

Nyetimber Stores was sold at an undisclosed price.
