Parks staff from Adur & Worthing Councils have been praised for the speed of their work to get bowling greens ready for play.
All of the Councils’ greens are now back in action with the clubs using them observing social distancing guidelines while playing.
The government moved to relax lockdown laws on open air recreation and sports such as bowls and tennis leaving parks staff just one day’s notice to get the greens in working order so that play could commence.
Whilst many playing surfaces across the country will take a considerable amount of time to bring back into action, within the space of three days greens at Church House in Tarring, Southwick Park, Buckingham Park, Shoreham, Lancing Manor, Beach House Park, Worthing and Field Place, Worthing were all open for business.
Worthing Borough Council’s Executive Member for Health and Wellbeing, Cllr Val Turner, said, ‘Since the government recognised the benefit of open-air exercise and eased lockdown restrictions in this area our parks teams worked extremely hard to bring the greens quickly up to scratch. I want to thank them for their efforts which I am sure have been appreciated by the bowling clubs.
Adur District Council’s Executive Member for Health and Wellbeing, Cllr David Simmons, said, ‘It was a very quick and skillful turnaround. Obviously greens need to be looked after and kept to a high standard. That we were able to bring them back to playing standard so quickly is testament to the expertise and dedication of the team. Well done to all our staff!’
