Railway Children Musical Comes to Eastbourne

A delightful new musical adaptation of literary classic, The Railway Children, comes to the Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne this Easter holiday, on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd April, and with attractive family discounts it’s the perfect treat for all ages.

Come and join Bobbie, Peter and Phyllis on the adventure of a lifetime as they tell the story of how they became the Railway Children in this wonderful new musical adaptation by Stephen Kingsbury and Ben Sleep.

The children are forced to leave their comfortable London home and move to the country to Three Chimneys; a run-down cottage in Yorkshire near the railway-line, after their beloved father is falsely accused and subsequently imprisoned for spying. Summer days are spent playing and befriending the Station Master and Porter, until the children manage to avert a disastrous train crash, but what has become of their father? Can the elderly gentleman who waves from the 9:15am train hold the key?

Composer and Lyricist Stephen Kingsbury has written the music and lyrics to five original musicals: Great Expectations, Treasure Island! The Wind in the Willows, The Railway Children and Arbuckle, the last three with writer, Ben Sleep. Ben began writing in 2006 when he was a finalist for the BBC’s Witty and Twisted search for new comedy writers and performers. After being assigned a mentor at the BBC, he went on to write for numerous Radio comedy shows, including: Look Away Now and Newsjack.

Although written in 1906 The Railway Children has been adapted many times for stage, television and film; this new version is sure to delight audiences of all ages bringing a fresh take on this wonderfully life affirming story capturing all the excitement and emotion of Edith Nesbit’s subtle critique of the English class system, bringing the wonder of this literary classic to yet another generation.
