Motorists are reminded that gas and water works are taking place on the A22 in East Grinstead until September 2015.
Southern Gas Networks and South East Water need to replace gas and water mains at the A22 London Road junction with Imberhorne Lane.
Southern Gas Networks has started its mains renewal.South East Water will follow immediately afterwards.West Sussex County Council has worked closely with both utility companies to minimise disruption as far as possible.
Unfortunately it was not possible to combine both works at the same time.
The works have been co-ordinated to take place one after the other to avoid a return visit from either utility company.
Temporary multi-way lights are in place for 24 hours for the duration of the works.
Southern Gas Networks has agreed to manually operate the traffic lights at peak hours to quicken the flow of traffic.
County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, John O’Brien, said: “Unfortunately disruption is inevitable at this location because of the volume of traffic, particularly in the mornings with vehicles entering East Grinstead, and in the evenings with vehicles leaving. We will be constantly monitoring the works as they progress to see what we can do to help alleviate disruption.”
A one-way road closure will be required from Thursday, July 23, to prevent traffic travelling northbound, and then southbound, along Imberhorne Lane.
The road will be closed on one side and then the other.
A diversion route will be in place via London Road, Beeching Way, Brooklands Way, Turners Hill Road and back onto Imberhorne Lane.
The closure will take place during summer holidays to avoid disruption to schools.
Motorists are advised to allow for extra time on their journeys if they use this route.
