Review: Genghis Kant

Local author and Sussex Newspaper columnist Steve Cook’s debut fiction work, “Genghis Kant” has been described as “easily as funny” as Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy or Terry Pratchett. That’s quite a compliment!

We recommend that you buy and read the book to find out why. The story is a tongue-in-cheek sci fi romp that features the eponymous hero, Genghis, who is generally recognised as the world’s worst rock singer and his band, Caligula’s Pants, as the world’s worst rock band.

Differences of musical taste among aliens being what they are, Genghis discovers – much to the surprise of everyone except the man himself – that he is regarded as a rock god on a par with Elvis on an alien planet many light years from Earth. Then he receives an offer he can’t refuse to perform at a major festival on the alien world. But as Genghis and his execrable band soon discover, there is a catch . . .

“I’m only a third of the way into this book and it is hilarious – everyone should buy it – it is easily as funny as Hitch-hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Spinal Tap and Terry Pratchett . . .”

“I was just sitting in my kitchen reading Genghis Kant when I laughed so hard I blew toast and jam all over my freshly washed clothing drying on the clothes horse. Thanks for that . . . deeply brilliant writer. Deeply impressed.”
