Seaford Town Council is pleased to announce that with new sub-contractors on site works to the children’s play area at the Salts Recreation Ground are at last taking shape and are a significant step towards creating a fun and stimulating park for children to enjoy in the town for many years to come.
There is no denying that the project has overrun considerably due to failings with the private contractors however the recent delays have been with a view to ensuring that the current activities and changes to the site will bring about a vast improvement. The Council realises that the delay has been frustrating for the users of the park but is confident that once fully opened, the play area will be well received and relished by all.
Understanding the inconvenience of the park being entirely closed to the public, the Council has worked with the sub-contractors to ensure that part of the park remains open at any one time. These efforts have not been in vain and the park has been well used over recent weeks despite the limited equipment on offer. The good news is that further pieces of equipment will be back in action this weekend and with the arrival of the sunny weather, it is hoped that the play area will soon be fully open again!
Visitors may also notice the new surfacing to certain areas of the park; this has been gifted as compensation from the manufacturers for their delays and is a fabulous addition, at no extra cost. This safety surfacing is much nicer for the children to play (and tumble!) on and makes accessing the equipment easier, especially during poorer weather when grassy areas quickly become muddy obstacles with the level of footfall they see.
Going forwards over the coming weeks, certain equipment will continue to be cordoned off while work is taking place but rest assured this is and will be carried out as quickly and thoroughly as possible.
Once completed and open to be enjoyed by the public, Council officers will focus on the next stages of the redevelopment of the Salts as a whole including the tennis courts, skate park and Salts Café. Further developments and announcements will be made over the coming months.
