Share a picnic with a neighbour during Know My Neighbour Week

The Brighton and Hove Food Partnership are holding a community picnic to celebrate Know My Neighbour Week.

The fun event on Sunday 22 May will be at our new community garden project at Saunders Park, Brighton, BN2 4AY (behind Shabitat) which we aim to transform in the coming months with the local residents and users of the park.

Everyone is invited to come along, bring a dish to share if you want or bring your own lunch. The Food Partnership will be organising activities such as cookery demonstrations, games and wildlife activities.
The picnic runs from 12pm to 3pm and is free.  Visitors will also be encouraged to get involved with the first stages of the new food garden which the Food Partnership aim to turn from a slightly forgotten area into a vibrant community space.

Statistics show that community food projects such as gardening can help reduce loneliness and isolation and encourage people to feel part of a group which can improve well-being and health.

Another chance to get involved in Know Your Neighbour week is to come along with a neighbour to a volunteer day at Saunders Park on Thursday 26 May to join in with wild flower sowing. We are also running monthly volunteer activity days on the last Thursday of every month. In June, we will be Building Structures and in July we will be creating a sensory garden.

Representatives from the Food Partnership will also be joining in the activities at the Know My Neighbour Pop-up café at the One Church, Gloucester Place on Monday 23 May.  Come along to find out about our work and how you can join in one of our local food and gardening projects or set up a new one with your neighbours.
