Snap Out Of It!

If you want to make any change in your life, I am going to make a suggestion that may challenge your current beliefs.

There’s a common theory, that it takes twenty-one days to form a new habit.   Other studies and theories suggest varying time frames to create new habits.

I believe that you can choose to change any habit or unwanted feeling in an instant.  I know of people who have quit smoking instantly when they have heard bad news from their doctor, or others who have stopped drinking alcohol after a debilitating hangover.

I truly believe that it is possible to make a change in a moment.  As I say in my book, I Love You – you may have some work to do on yourself, but you can certainly make the decision to change in an instant.

Often we need to hit rock-bottom to find the motivation to change, but your situation does not need to get worse for you to want to change it.  If you know you need to make a change – for good health, good finances or good relationships, you can choose that today.

It doesn’t matter if you haven’t been able to change until now.  If you’ve made attempts and not persisted, don’t give up.  Challenge yourself, and ultimately make the change for yourself.  Decide right now, that you have now made the decision to change.

All change begins with the decision to make the change.

If you haven’t made the firm decision to change, or to create something new in your life, then you won’t have the motivation to change your actions, words, feelings and beliefs.

Once your decision is made, you then have a different attitude, a new outlook, new words, actions and feelings, which ultimately create a new and different result.

If you’ve had an experience of not feeling good, you may have heard someone suggest that you, “Snap out of it?”

Whilst I’m not making light of your situation, I am sure that you can actually snap your fingers, when an old habit or feeling turns up that you no longer want to experience. You can use a snap of your fingers to signal to your mind to change the negative thought to a positive one.

My column is about feeling good. I will focus on how to feel good, and offer advice on how to improve your mood and outlook to ultimately feel good.

Regardless of what we want in life, it is for the ultimate feeling to feel good.

What if I told you now, that in order to feel good, you must first feel good?

Your aim is always to find the best feeling you can, which then creates more good feelings.

I’ll use an example – if you have been unwell and you want to improve your health, and I’ll use this example as I believe (and certainly for me), this is the number one priority.  I want to be a good mother to my children, and help people with my consulting, but I can only do that with good health.

Let’s all begin with wanting the change for good health. There are so many actions we can take right now that will affirm that we are now being “in good health”.  I’m sure you know a lot of these actions, and we’ll cover them in forthcoming columns.

Today we are making the decision, right now, that we are improving our health and we want “good health”.  Now, go about your day with your new belief that you have “good health” and notice what changes you make.

After you’ve made the firm decision to have good health, when you’re shopping for groceries, then you’d want to buy more fresh fruit and vegetables, and limit the products with sugar.  For optimum good health, I suggest limiting sugar – you’ll feel better, as it will assist in balancing your mood, and reducing body fat.

You have the ability to retrain your brain, to think empowering thoughts, and to take positive action.  If you want positive results in your life, start now by making the decision to have positive behavior and beliefs.

New habits and behavior is sustained with repetition, and I’m sure that your new behavior will reap many positive benefits, and thus you’ll want to keep going with your changes.

In forthcoming columns, I’ll explain in more detail about the power of your mind, how to feel good with changes in nutrition and beliefs, and how to create what you want.

Please write to me any time at info@donnahanks.com if you’d like to enquire about a private consultation (*subject to availability), or let me know what subject you’d like my next column to be on.

Be well. Be Happy. Be you.

Love,
Donna
