SNEAKY EAST SUSSEX COUNTY COUNCIL

It seems that ESCC think that drivers of vehicles need to be clairvoyant about parking restrictions in Eastbourne.  Apparently inKing Edwards Parade all the parking meters are covered awaiting maintenance – how can a person parking their vehicle get a ticket.  It is all very well placing a notice on the machine that free parking is from 1st November to 1st April – but it doesn’t state how one can get the necessary ticket to safeguard the vehicle from receiving a parking fine.  Apparently none of the parking meters were working in King Edwards Parade and ESCC stated they did not need to put up notices to inform the public that the free parking had ended – so if you’re on holiday and that was your first visit to Eastbourne – you could be fined and without knowing why – no wonder tourism is taking a nose-dive in Eastbourne.

Why is it not possible that between the two dates of free parking the machines can be given a maintenance check or is that too easy to comprehend?  It doesn’t take too much brain power to work things out satisfactorily for both the drivers and the company in charge of the parking meters or does it?

I can remember many years ago, the Society I am a member of and many other local societies gave their free time to give a “Remembrance Evening Concert” at the Congress Theatre and that we had to attend a rehearsal on Sunday afternoon and would you believe it a Parking Warden gave us all ticket fines.  We all explained that we were there to rehearse for that evenings event and he stated that he hadn’t or didn’t know of any performance was going to happen even though the Congress Theatre was plastered with posters.

As we marched into the Congress Theatre we gave our parking tickets to the organiser of the event who seemed surprised that we should have received them.  Not wishing to be unkind about the dedication of someone doing their job – but on a Sunday – he should have been at home with his Sunday paper and his feet up resting them for the coming week ahead of handing out parking fines.

I have come to the conclusion that Traffic Wardens and ESCC have zilch brain power.
