Headlines
What a terrible accident when a motorist decided to go the wrong way up on a M road – aged only 22 years of age – killing two people as reported by one of our National newspapers – it was hard to find this reported piece of news as it measured three by one and a half inches. Had it been a Pensioner who had killed two people it would have been major headlines covering a whole page and then there would be an outcry of bringing in a driving test for everybody over the age of seventy. As I have matured over the years I have found more and more people under the age of fifty ready to lay the blame on older drivers and yet they forget that themselves will be at some stage be in the same boat unless of course they kill themselves in a road accident before reaching maturity.
Fog Lights
Lots of people are still using their fog lights front and rear when there isn’t a fog or mist in sight. Admittedly fog lights, because they are lower can help with seeing the edge of some country roads that have no side markings or street lights. Unfortunately it is illegal to use these lights and if caught by the police you will be given a hefty fine. I am not sure if you will get points on your driving licence for this breach in the law.
Early Appointments
The drivers from hell are on the roads early in the morning as I found out one morning this week when I was hooted by a van driver because I refused to pass two buses waiting at a bus stop along Kings Drive, Eastbourne until it was clear for me to do so. Passing traffic was pretty busy and the car I was driving wasn’t able to fly. If motorists knowingly know they have to get to work at a certain time, they should make allowances and get up earlier instead of giving other road users harassment by hooting their horns. It’s also a pity that some of them are not so liberal with their vehicle indicators.
Catching Up!
Don’t you just hate the driver of a vehicle who breaks the speed limit to catch up with you and doggedly stays about five feet away – I call this tail gating. This always happens if you travel on Paradise Drive, Eastbourne. It is a winding road with a stone wall on the passenger side of the car and of course it feels very close and having to keep an eye open for the car behind can be another form of harassment.
