Spines are sure to tingle at the Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne this February as a new adaptation of Bram Stokers gothic masterpiece, Dracula, comes to the atmospheric setting of the Victorian playhouse from 18th – 22nd February.
This new theatrical treatment of the enduring supernatural tale features specially commissioned live music, powerful and acclaimed performances and an innovative stage design; blending the high Victorian gothic with the contemporary in a wonderfully evocative way.
Set across London, provincial England to the Carpathian mountains of Transylvania the shadowy figure of Dracula looms large, the dark fear of the forbidden and the threat to purity seems an unstoppable force. The only thing that stands between the Count and domination is Professor Van Helsing and a small group of young men and women who are prepared to fight until the bitter end.
This new production comes from the acclaimed Blackeyed Theatre and visits Eastbourne as part of an extensive UK tour which has received five star reviews from critics, and audiences, alike. This new adaptation of the classic tale stays true to the story of the original Bram Stoker book but in a wonderfully theatrical and creative way.
Director, Eliot Giuralarocca explains “I was really keen to draw on the wide range of theatrical forms that were popular at that time and I wanted to put together an ensemble of strong storytellers; creative and versatile performers that could sing, move well and play an instrument. I’m really excited with the team we have in place. It’s a fabulously talented cast, with a muscular new adaptation of Bram Stoker’s novel by John Ginman and original music by Ron McAllister. We have all the ingredients needed to create something exciting, memorable and thought provoking.”
This pre-cursor to the Twilight series puts the bite back into the vampire genre in a deliciously satisfying way, and with a Pay What You Can Scheme on the first night (where you pay whatever you want for your ticket), even if you’ve never been to the theatre before what have you got to lose?
Dracula at the Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne from Tuesday 18th – Saturday 22nd February, with nightly performances at 7.45pm and Wednesday and Saturday matinees at 2.30pm, tickets priced from £14.50, with Pay What You Can on 18 February and the Under 25’s £10 tickets for all performances.
