The Glenn Miller Story

2020 marks the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War; in honour of this the Terry Steel Astor Big Band will be bringing The Glenn Miller Story to Eastbourne’s Congress Theatre on Sunday 4 October 3pm (which is a change to the previously advertised date.) with profits being donated to the Royal British Legion.

Eastbourne can get In the Mood as the music of Glenn Miller is lovingly recreated and swings into the Congress Theatre on for an afternoon of toe-tapping music featuring the legendary American bandleader’s greatest hits.

This special  version of The Glenn Miller Story commemorates the 75th anniversary of the End of World War 2 and of Millers tragic death in December 1944. At least 20 of Miller’s top hits and the music of The Andrew Sisters , Vera Lynn, Frank Sinatra which raised the Moral of the Allies in 1944/5, plus a selection songs from Showboat to Chicago as Miller would have plaid them.

Eastbourne has a special, if slightly chilling connection, to the big band icon Glenn; It was a foggy, dank December afternoon when Glenn Miller’s plane was last spotted, flying over Beachy Head and into a mystery which is still yet to be solved 75 years on.

After flying over the white cliffs of Eastbourne at 14.37 precisely, on course and on schedule for the final destination – Paris to entertain the troops – the aircraft simply disappeared, forever. No sign of the plane was ever found and Miller’s disappearance remains one of World War II’s most enduring mysteries.
