Treat Violence as a Disease

Violence is a disease process or can be part of addiction/alcoholism/drugs. How do you legislate or punish a genetic, hereditary, and/or generational disease? Only programs that address the root cause and origin of the issues are the only ways to heal violence. People act out their pain and anger; it is a cry for help.

Even musical theater in a show called, “Assassins” uses the premise of a murderous carnival game to produce a revue-style portrayal of men and women who attempted (successfully or not) to assassinate Presidents of the United States. Some families think sarcasm, mockery, ridicule, scorn, or disrespect is okay. Punishment is about physical harm. Habitually, if the parent was beaten, so will his children receive the same treatment? This actually prevents the ability to change into a more productive behavior.

Words to describe violence are endless as aggression fighting, hostility, violent behavior, brutality cruelty, sadism, bloodshed, carnage, killing, slaughter, massacre, butchery, and more. Our society is being conditioned into violence through the evening news, videos, and movies.

There is some pain and drama in growing up. Realizing that all forms of aggression originate from an inner lack of love and stability is the answer. Sadly, parents who were not nurtured growing up cannot nurture their children until they grow in love themselves. An often recognized solution is Anger Management; however, it is a superficial way to avoid the deep dilemma because it does not address the root cause.

Parents advise in helping the adolescent make good decisions that are positive with positive results. Instead of punishing a child, which stops their emotional growth and self-esteem; you allow them to find another option that will work better. This brings a sense of belonging and family. Discipline teaches the child to find a better way to resolve their problem. Raising a child in love and stability is not easy in our life styles today.

When a child is raised without love or has traumatic experiences at a young age, this distorts their emotional growth. They want to lash out at others to release that pain. However, they actually feel worse and the pain continues.

Violent people are addicted to the natural drug adrenalin. The American Medical Association declared addiction a disease in 1956. Turning to drugs is a way to mask that pain. These ailing people need appropriate treatment. Anger is inappropriate behavior and creates hurting others or themselves, acting out their pain. In addition, if the person is using drugs, prescriptions medications, or alcohol, this compounds the drug-induced behavior. Only, with truth, knowledge, and compassion can people seek the help they need to restore a rational life style.

Part of treatment is learning to express anger appropriately. Then the individual can grow into maturity, with appropriate responses for loving resolutions. Healing from valid information to find the missing balance in the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects is the answer. Few seminars, lectures, and consultations reveal the dynamics of violence with a solution that is effective. The old solutions and nonproductive answers continue to bring misinformation. My interview and lectures on Youtube have tools and understanding that bring recovery.

I attended a three-day workshop on domestic violence given by the local county. I received a big notebook of charts and old information from Dawn, an organization to support women in domestic violence. The director was blaming the men. One old adage is that it takes two to tangle. Another one says that when you point the finger at someone there are three pointing back.

Therefore, at that point I had taken responsibility for my side of the disputes. I found that I had to forgive him for he knew not what he did. He was acting out his pain and did not understand that. I had to send love to him so he felt safe and would not attack. When I changed, the dynamics changed. In my opinion the leader did not want to take personal responsibility nor have that addressed.

I had a counseling client who was attending classes for women in domestic violence given at the local hospital. She confided in me that they did not get it at the hospital and I understood. Their patients were returning still needing help.

When parents listen to the requests, thoughts, or suggestions of their child and accept it as part of the family agreement, children grow up in a positive approach to life. With trust, communication, and feelings, the family is functional. Acting out in inappropriate behavior including violence towards others for recognition and acceptance is not necessary.

Therapeutic Hypnosis and Holistic Counseling addresses the total complex issues for a balanced and whole life. Personal recovery is possible with accurate solutions for healing the root causes. Recovery means people create their own productive, contributing life style that benefits society.
