Tunbridge Wells Arts Venues Work Together

The Assembly Hall Theatre and Trinity Theatre have announced that they are working together on another joint initiative for the Borough and will, for the first time, develop audiences for contemporary dance events in Tunbridge Wells and beyond.

The first collaboration is the co-presentation of Ashford based Jasmin Vardimon’s JV2 Ensemble. Jasmin Vardimon Company created JV2 as an educational initiative aimed at the recently qualified or those already working professionally in order to deliver a Professional Development Certificate.

Rejoicing in youth culture has always been at the heart of the JV2 programme and their 2018 triple bill is no exception. This electrifying new production celebrates the intrinsically fresh approach of two emerging choreographers, in collaboration with the vast experience of the multi-award winning choreographer Jasmin Vardimon (pictured). This year’s JV2 are an ensemble of 15 international bright new talents; hand-picked by Artistic Director Jasmin.

JV2 2018 showcases works created by Yunkyung Song and André Rebelo. The triple bill will culminate in a performance of Jasmin Vardimon’s (In between), originally created for the National Youth Dance Company and premiered at Sadler’s Wells in 2013. (In between) has been revived for 2018 with the exceptional talent of the JV2 ensemble.

Commenting on the collaboration, Trinity Theatre’s Director, John Martin said, “The best contemporary dance expresses the depth of discovery that dancers and choreographers go through to develop their own dance language and communicate the joy of pure movement. Jasmin Vardimon’s company is one of the leading young ensembles and Trinity is delighted to be partnering with Assembly Hall Theatre to bring their work to Tunbridge Wells.”

JJ Almond, Director of Assembly Hall Theatre added, “Assembly Hall Theatre has ambitions to present contemporary dance work in the future but without an audience base it is difficult. This collaboration is the first of many to enable Trinity Theatre to take an artistic risk and to help support the development of a more consistent contemporary dance programme in the Borough. It is not the only project we are collaborating on, we have been co-managing the Sherwood Youth Theatre project for the past 6 months. I look forward to developing more joint projects over the coming months and years.”
