Welcome Leah Johnston to the TSN Team

Hello lovely readers of Sussex! I would like to introduce to you my new monthly column; this will cover a range of topics based on my experiences, thoughts, and also include some news-style/investigative articles which I hope will get you thinking and create some discussion!

So first, why don’t I start by telling you a little about myself? Having grown up in rainy ol’ Northern Ireland (I know, not a true Sussex-er!), I made my way across to the mainland when I was just eight years old. After quite culture shock, a lack of use of the word ‘wee’, and a rather rapid accent change, I settled into life on the sunshine coast rather nicely.

I’ve always had a love for words and the English Language, and so I followed this path in my academic life, both at school and college, and eventually went back to my roots and studied English and Linguistics at Queens University Belfast. The linguistic study particularly took my interest due to my own accent variation from my youth. I loved my time at university, and whilst there, took on the role of Lifestyle Editor of The Gown, the student newspaper. This confirmed my love for the editorial world, hence why you now have me writing for you each month!

Currently, my full time role is a Customer Service Adviser in an ergonomics company within the health and wellbeing sector, but my real passion lies in the art of storytelling, through journalism. As a young person living in what some call ‘Gods waiting room’, I hope to bring you news, humour, opinion and an insight into life as a graduate trying to break into a very competitive corporate world.

Remember to keep an eye out for my column each month and I hope to hear some responses from you all. Most of all, I will write whatever inspires me, whatever is close to my heart, and whatever is on my mind.
