West End star to read entries

Former West End star Alan Baker will be reading the entries for Anderida Writers’ Annual Short Story and Poetry competition on Tuesday, July 12 at 7.30pm at the West Rocks Hotel, 44-46 Grand Parade, Eastbourne, BN21 4DL.

Alan, who played the title role in the Winslow Boy at the Haymarket Theatre, lives in Peacehaven and recently became the Eastbourne and Bexhill writing group’s chairman.

The winner of the short story competition will receive £100 in cash. The other short story prizes are: second – dinner for two at the West Rocks Hotel; third – five items from a Fortnum & Mason hamper selection; fourth – three items from a Fortnum & Mason hamper selection; fifth – two items from a Fortnum & Mason hamper selection.

The winner of the poetry competition will receive £75 in cash, and the runner-up a bottle of champagne and chocolate truffles in a Fortnum & Mason presentation box (valued £60). The third poetry prize is four items from a Fortnum & Mason hamper selection.

Competition secretary Maria Louka says there are 23 entries on the theme ‘Narrow Escape.’
All qualifying members present will vote for each entry. Guests and members of the public are welcome to attend.
